Please
share a little about yourself, your genres, any other pen names you use.
Thank you for the warm welcome. I write contemporary and historical
paranormal and as J.L. Bowen, I write young adult paranormal. I have loved the supernatural since I was a
little girl and writing about the paranormal is a dream come true!
Tell
us a little about your latest or upcoming release.
My newest release is Betrayal, the first one in the
Angels of Death series. Scythe tracks
his demon brother to Serenity House, a drug and alcohol treatment center. His brother wants to destroy the director,
Heather Bowen, but Scythe is shocked to discover she is his angel-mate and now,
he must not only save his brother’s soul, but stop him from killing the woman
he loves.
I got the idea for this novel after I saw a picture
of smokers looking up at burial ceiling painting. Questions ran through my mind. What if an angel of death appeared in your
dreams and gave you a choice to change your behavior or die? What if instead of smoking, it was a drug
straight from hell? What if his brother
is bent on getting revenge on a woman he blames for his mate’s death? What if the angel discovers the woman is
actually his destined mate?
Is
there a theme or message in your work that you would like readers to connect
to?
Yes, in this book, I wanted people to work on
forgiveness. My characters not only have
to forgive those who have betrayed them, but they must forgive themselves. As a social worker, people’s own
self-loathing will keep them from moving on after a tragedy. I wanted to offer hope.
Which
romance book or series (or other genre, if you don’t write romance) do you wish
you had written?
There are so many series I love, but if I had to
pick one, it would have to be Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Dark Hunter Series. I love how she has incorporated Greek Gods
with the legends of vampires. My
favorite character is Acheron. He has
had to learn how to forgive himself as well as those who have hurt him.
If
this book is part of a series…what is the next book? Any details you can share?
Yes, I have a short, Sinful Delight, being released
from Passion in Print in October. Poison
is an angel of death and she tangles with a demon, Ringmaster. The Archangel of Michael orders Poison to
obtain a hell spell board, but the demon Ringmaster gets there fast. He will hand over the spell board and the woman
using the board if Poison will submit to it.
If Poison refuses and returns to heaven empty handed, Michael threatens
to demote her, leaving Poison with little choice.
What
book are you reading now?
I am currently reading Fifty Shades of Grey by E.L.
James and it is better than I thought it would be. I like the heroine and I’m intrigued by
her. Also, the hero is beginning to show
some vulnerability which makes him a more interesting character.
