Drama Queens with Love Scenes by Kevin Klehr

Tell us a little about your latest release.

It’s a tale of desire and dead people…and it’s about theatre and unfinished business. Allan and Warwick are best friends who find themselves welcomed to the Afterlife by an angel and a blonde bombshell. But the memories of the days leading up to their demise are sketchy, and while they both grapple with the mystery of their deaths, Allan tries to deal with his romantic feelings for Warwick. Warwick, on the other hand, has fallen for cock-sure playwright, Pedro.

Have you ever based your book or characters on actual events or people from your own life?

Maybe it’s my therapy? My current book has minute threads of people and events that have been part of my life through the many drafts of this novel over ten years. But they’re only threads. They’ve been blended and baked into a story that bears no resemblance to the truths they’re based on.

Is there a theme or message in your work that you would like readers to connect to?

There is, but I’d prefer if the reader just enjoy themselves in the story and the humor. Like life, most lessons are revealed when we’re not looking for them.

What is next for you? Do you have any scheduled upcoming releases or works in progress?

At this point in time, I’m doing more marketing. It’s easier than writing a book, but still a lot of hard work, albeit extremely necessary.

The sequel to Drama Queens with Love Scenes has been untouched for a year, and is dying to be worked on and brought to third draft. My mind has been working overtime lately, coming up with new plot twists for the book.

I’ve also been dreaming about my new video camera. So far it’s been the subject of my dreams three times. I think there’s a message there. It needs a project to stimulate it.

What book are you reading now?

For about two months, the last 200 or so pages of Markus Zusak’s The Book Thief have been waiting for me to read them. I’m trying to promise myself that I’ll read them before I pick up anything else.

What is in your to read pile?

My ‘to read’ pile includes Jessica McQuay’s Black Moon, Robert Dunbar’s anthology Martyrs And Monsters, and Jonathan Tropper’s latest novel One Last Thing Before I Go.

About the Author :

Kevin lives with his long-term partner in their humble apartment (affectionately named Sabrina), in Australia's own 'Emerald City,' Sydney.

He calls himself a bit of a 'media tart,' having worked both professionally and voluntarily in television, radio and online. His longest running passion is a weekly radio program he and his partner, Warren, produce for local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander station, Koori Radio. Since 2005 they have been discovering music, both new and old, and interviewing local artists and community leaders. Every Saturday night, the Rhythm Divine is heard across Sydney and via the world wide web.

From an early age Kevin had a passion for writing, jotting down stories and plays until it came time to confront puberty. After dealing with pimple creams and facial hair, Kevin didn't pick up a pen again until he was in his thirties. His handwritten manuscript was being committed to paper when his social circumstances changed, giving him no time to write. Concerned, Warren snuck the notebook out to a friend who in turn came back and demanded Kevin finish his novel. It wasn't long before Kevin's active imagination was let loose again.

Kevin is currently at work on the sequel to Drama Queens with Love Scenes.

Write from the Heart Guest blog with EB Walters

Good morning and thank you for inviting me to make a stop by your site on the blog tour for FOREVER HERS, book 5 of the FITZGERALD FAMILY series.

Trend: I bet you’ve heard this word in publishing business. Watch the trend in publishing…what’s popular…what readers are reading.
If you listened to the buzz on what’s popular or what’s not, you’ll never publish a book.  One minute vampires are in, the next angels and demons. Chick lit and romantic suspense are out and erotic romance is in. Contemporary romance is out and paranormal in.
My response: Write from your heart and give readers one hell of a story with well-developed characters and a believable plot.
Brand: If you listen to your agent or publicist, you’ll hear a lot about brand. Your brand is you… your voice, your style, the texture and the phrasing of your words, your genre. When a reader picks up a book by Stephen King or J.R. Ward, she knows exactly what she’s getting. What happens if you switch genres? Does it mean readers used to reading your, say, paranormal romance, won’t be interested in reading your contemporary romance or your erotic romance?
My response: I don’t think so. Once again, I say write from your heart and give readers a ride of their live as they live vicariously through your heroine.
Fan base:  Ha, another popular expression in the publishing business you hear a lot. Readers are loyal, that’s why we talk about building your fan base. If you write it and they love your stories, they will read it. Because of self-publishing and e-publishing, authors can cross genres now, write whatever they like and market it to their readers.
I write contemporary romance because I enjoy writing about realistic situations. I like getting in the head of women any one of us can identify with and the men who courts them. It doesn’t matter whether he is a millionaire she meets by chance at a club, the boy next door, her boss, the local detective, my books are about real couple overcoming real problems to find love.
That’s not to say I will never write paranormal romance. I’m presently plotting an adult series with witches, half-angels, vampires and shifters. Am I worried that readers won’t join me and read this series? No. As long as I write from my heart and give them the same well-developed characters with flaws, the intense, steamy love scenes, believable plots just as I did with my contemporary romances, they’ll be happy. In the meantime, I’m writing about the Fitzgeralds and loving it.
What do you think?
