Interview and GIveaway with Danielle DeVor Author of Tail of the Devil

Please share a little about yourself, your genres, any other pen names you use.

I am obsessed with anything chocolate and I’ve found that eating chocolate before sitting down to write helps me get down words. If there is no chocolate, cashews work as well.

I mostly write fantasy/horror both YA and Adult, but I have dabbled with Paranormal Romance and Thrillers.

Tell us a little about your latest or upcoming release.

Tail of the Devil is about a street kid, Mathias, who just wants to live. When he’s gunned down outside of a building, a vampire saves him and takes him to Siberia where the ruling government of vampires reside as well as the school for vampire children. Mathias must learn a whole new way of living that includes having manners and dealing with vampires who believe he’s the reincarnation of their old revered king.

Have you ever based your book or characters on actual events or people from your own life?

Yes. Mathias’ parents are based on my own. And his last name, Drvar, was the original spelling of my family’s last name.

What would your readers be surprised to learn about you?

That I love frogs. I have tons of different types and recently received a frog toy from India. It is adorable.

When you’re not writing what do you do? Do you have any hobbies or guilty pleasures?

I crochet, play the harp, and still dabble in ballet. At one time, I wanted to be a professional dancer.

Which romance book or series (or other genre, if you don’t write romance) do you wish you had written?

The Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice. I just love Lestat and can’t get enough of his sarcasm.

Is there a genre(s) that you’d like to write that you haven’t tackled yet?

Historial fiction. I recently hit upon an idea about West Virginia coal mining communities in the 1920’s, so this one is going to take me a few years to research.

Of all the characters you’ve ever written, who is your favorite and why?

This is a hard question. It is probably a toss up between Nossy from Tail of the Devil because he is so much fun and Jimmy Holiday, the priest from Sorrow’s Point.

If this book is part of a series…what is the next book? Any details you can share?

Tail of the Devil is the first of a series. Mathias learns that even the vampire government is corrupt when his friend, and current king, is kidnapped.

What is next for you? Do you have any scheduled upcoming releases or works in progress?

My book, Sorrow’s Point, is coming out on October 15, 2013. And, I have recently contracted a YA Paranormal Romance called Constructing Marcus.

What book are you reading now?

Broken Harbor by Tana French

What is in your to read pile?

It isn’t very long at the moment because I’m a fast reader. But, I just bought Summer of Ghosts by Doug Everly on my Kindle.

Book Description:

If Mathias thought being homeless sucked, being a vampire is worse. The vampires who transformed him believe he is the reincarnation of an ancient king. They expect him to quit swearing, use a napkin, and play by their weird, ancient rules. Screw that.

But after the reigning queen assaults Mathias, he has visions of a past life in which he was that king. Turns out the current queen killed him then, and wants to kill him again. He’d better grow up fast, because if he doesn’t his second life may be shorter than his first.

About the Author:

Danielle DeVor spent her early years fantasizing about vampires and watching “Salem’s Lot” way too many times.  After living briefly in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, she moved back to her hometown to write.  When not writing and reading about weird things, you will find her hanging out at the nearest coffee shop, enjoying a mocha frappuccino.
