Interview and Giveaway: The Gentleman by Natasha Powell

Please share a little about yourself, your genres, any other pen names you use.

Well, where do I start? I’m from Tampa, FL and I’ve always had an interest in writing just about anything. As a kid, I used to write as other writers, once I saw I could write my own stories, I began to write as myself.

After I begin writing, I get a rush of ideas and cannot stop writing and continuing the story. Sometimes I spend 20 plus hours writing and three days crying after I read what I wrote during my writing marathon. I enjoy sci-fi, fantasy and some thriller novels and try to read regularly

Tell us a little about your latest or upcoming release.

My latest release is my debut book, The Gentleman, is a horror novel that follows the protagonist, James Greene, as he tries to rid himself from a demon known as The Gentleman.

The next project I have is a series of short stories that I plan to release individually on Amazon and release as a set later in the year as a collection of short stories.

Other than that, I have a bunch of screenplays and novels planned later in the year.

Have you ever based your book or characters on actual events or people from your own life?

I mostly took traits from people I knew, but no character I created is based solely on a particular person from my life.

What would your readers be surprised to learn about you?

I was in the military for 8 years.

When you’re not writing what do you do? Do you have any hobbies or guilty pleasures?

I’m watching Archer, Vikings, The History Channel, B rated movies, running, drawing, learning code and electronics, reading…oh, attempting to become organized.

What is next for you? Do you have any scheduled upcoming releases or works in progress?

The works I have in progress are a series of short stories, divided into three categories that I plan to release individually then as a set. The three categories are Paranormal and Super Natural, Monsters, and Macabre.

What is in your to read pile?

My read pile is the size of the largest hill in Florida, lol. But I have the following in my read pile, which I’ve either started or I’m about to start.
Red Rising- Pierce Brown
The Invisible Man – H.G. Wells
The Palace Job
BZRK
The Last Apprentice
The White Devil
The Quantum Thief

Interview and Giveaway:Gemini Rising Ethereal Fury by Jessica OGorek

1. Was there one book that inspired you to write? What book was it and who is the author? What made it stick with you?

Twilight by Stephanie Meyer. The series stuck with me because I absolutely love Edward and because of Bella’s transition from girl to vampire. I watched the first movie then read the series and just couldn’t get enough of it. The funny thing is, Meyer really isn’t a stunning writer, not compared to James Patterson or King, but she still sucked me into the story and had me reeling with Edward’s innocent sweetness. He was a killer but also a gentle soul. This concept fascinates me and has translated into Onyx, my main character.

2. What inspired you to write this book?

I wanted to take the YA genre and add some spice to it by inserting a deeper concept they can hopefully relate to. Instead of just a love triangle and some supernatural creatures, we have an earth element; one that I hope will instill in them the importance of protecting our planet.

3. What’s the first creative writing you did outside school or a class?

When I was 12, I hand wrote a 2000 page romance novel. But my passion was dark ad disturbing poetry. I love the way adults would read and then look at me like I was a poor tortured soul.

4. If you didn’t live where you live now, where would you live? Why?

Brazil. I love green, it’s my favorites color and I’ve always wanted to live in a tree house in the Amazon.

5. If your book were made into a TV show or movie, who would you want to play the main character(s)?

I would take Robert Pattinson’s face and paste it with The Rock’s body to make Onyx. He would have to be computerized anyway since he is made of smoke. Kristen Stewart would be Violette, and Slate would be the guy in Warm Bodies. (don’t know his name off the top of my head) I’ve always pictured Darius as Silvester Stalone and the bishop as Donald Sutherland.

6. Did you publish the first book you wrote? If not, how many books did you write before publishing your first?

Yes! This is the first novel I have ever completed and I was lucky enough to land a publisher.

7. What was your favorite book as a kid? What’s your favorite book now?

Charlie Brown’s Christmas. Twilight.

8. What’s the best piece of advice given to you?

The serenity prayer- “God, Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.”

9. Give us a hint about your current writing project.

I am on book four on the Gemini Rising series.

Short Excerpt:

“Eleanor…” he whispered her name and she stopped. She turned towards the sound that she couldn’t locate.
“Over here.” He guided her with his hand from behind the craggy trunk, allowing it to be just visible enough to make her curious as to who its owner might be. An adult might run, scream, or faint at the sight of a translucent hand gesturing mysteriously, but Eleanor was an insightful little girl and wanted to know more. The redhead on the seesaw looked dismayed and repeated her plea. This annoyed Onyx considerably; he was tempted to go shut her up, but her attention was now steady on the phantom arm that beckoned her. He controlled his visibility simply with his mind. If he thought it, it became a reality for him.
Eleanor's little blonde curls shook a little as she seemed to be attempting to clear her head. He could start to feel the gravitational pull from within her. It started to tug on his energy, almost gripping him and pulling him piece by piece, atom by atom, ever closer to her.
"Come a little closer, Sweetheart. How many fingers am I holding up?" If he distracted her with the game or a challenge, it would be that much easier. Anticipation started to build within him, like the sweet pressure of an inevitable release. Trance-like now, unable to resist the lure of his sugary voice, she walked right into his arm and it was over.
"Hey," he said. She jerked her head to the left and saw only his spiraling eyes. Before she could utter a scream he was in through her surprised mouth, busily working into her muscles, connecting with her spinal cord to coordinate her movements. Her sensory organs were pliable, and the tendrils that were extensions of his personality easily wrapped around every bone, every nerve ending. She was stunned into silence by the complete and sudden takeover. He felt strong and empowered. It had been weeks since he had felt a young, healthy host take him to dizzying heights of euphoria.
This was where Gemini were meant to be, where they felt most in control and in touch with their true ability. To connive and manipulate, ruin and plunder the society around them was only justice. They were so weak and puny, murderers and thieves, liars, and rapists. They all took what they wanted from each other, and the earth, then sucked any generosity right out of the atmosphere. He always thought he was helping them shorten the time frame of their journey. They would all eventually die anyway; he just hurried along the process. He felt the need to justify himself after entering someone. He knew there was some deep hidden morsel of doubt that what he was doing was right, that every human should be annihilated from existence. He would never divulge these doubts to himself or anyone else. It was a hidden monster within him and he would never lend it credit.
“Eleanor! Please come play!" He turned around in the direction of the voice. He needed to adjust his vision just a little and did so by fitting his hollow sockets a little more snugly around the orbs of her eyes. The optical nerve was delicate and it was sometimes tricky to get the sight perfect. He shook his head at the girl now and smiled. He was not ready to play right now.
It always took him a few minutes to get acclimated in a new body. Sometimes, he would look in the mirror and his first instinct was to ask. "Who are you?" He would become so wrapped up in his missions that he might forget who he was, sometimes even the name of the person he inhabited.
He rested against the craggy bark of the tree and observed his surroundings; three nuns and seventeen children. He had to formulate a plan for how he would take over the main influencers of the church. He would need to study the innards and plot this out, as he told Lilly he would. Nothing rash or stupid would be beneficial; only smooth, calculative moves would render success.

About the Author:

I grew up admiring my father, Barry Weinstock, as an author. He took me around the country to different places so he could research and write his Wilderness Survival books. One of his greatest works, “The Path of Power,” was written with a great medicine man, Sunbear.

When I was twelve I started hand writing novels. My first one was two thousand pages. My dad always encouraged me and would rave about my writing. He gave me the confidence I needed to keep writing and follow my dream. My daughter, who is twelve, is currently working on her first novel. I hope to continue the legacy.

The Wolf and His Diva by Chris T. Kat

The Wolf and His Diva
Chris T. Kat

Genre: m/m paranormal (shapeshifter)

Publisher: Dreamspinner Press
Date of Publication: 03/12/2014

ISBN: 978-1-62798-563-5
ASIN: B00IY66WM2

Number of pages: 216
Word Count: 49,486
Cover Artist: Paul Richmond

Book Description:

George Owens is comfortable with his life just the way it is. A wolf- and fox-shifter, George leads a reclusive lifestyle with his energetic and diva-ish mate Billy, a fox- and squirrel-shifter.

George has no desire to take over leadership of the pack, despite his father’s wishes. Edward Owens is feeling his age and wants to make sure the pack is in good hands should he not be able to win his next challenge. However, George is adamant that he wants no part of it.

But events rock George from his complacency, and he realizes he has to take a stand and fight for what he cares about. If he remains in the past and cannot change in order to do what he must, he risks losing everything he loves.

Excerpt from Chapter Two (George is in his wolf-form):

Even though he didn’t expect an answer, George called, Billy!
He all but jumped out of his skin when something landed on his back. He let out a surprised bark and craned his head to see if a branch had fallen on him. He couldn’t find anything but caught a glimpse of something moving, accompanied by a featherlight motion on his back.
Relief flooded him when the movement ended between his ears, and two tiny paws grabbed the tips.
Hello there! Billy chirped.
Sheesh! You scared me to death! George growled.
Sorry! I was so surprised! See, I knew it would come in handy that my second form is a squirrel. I shifted during my fall and stopped rolling down farther. Unfortunately, I was covered in snow and decided to rescue myself on a tree to avoid more snow gluing to me.
You knew that? If I recall correctly, you whined for a whole week after you found out your second form is a squirrel, George replied.
Billy climbed down George’s head, turned around, and sat down slightly above George’s nose. Well, I wanted to be something cool too, and since the second form is often a larger animal, I was quite disappointed at first.
George’s eyes crossed as he tried to focus on the little red-furred squirrel. Billy, you know I hate it when you sit there.
Billy giggled but remained where he was. I love it when you get that odd look.
Either get up or get down, George grumbled.
The grumble held no heat, though. He was too happy that Billy wasn’t injured. His heart still pounded too fast in his chest, but he was sure it would take up normal activity soon.
Billy hastily climbed up and settled between his ears, his tiny paws again clutching them. Whee! Bring us home, my beloved!

Interview and Giveaway Dancing with a Dead Horse by Danielle DeVor

Tell us a little about your latest or upcoming release.

Dancing with a Dead Horse is about a young man, Jason, who is dealing with the problem that his mother wants him to be a ballet dancer like she was. He wants to be a Mixed Martial Arts fighter. Suddenly, when he finds the body of the most popular girl in school, his world is turned upside down. Especially when it appears that the killer is targeting him in a most unusual way.

Have you ever based your book or characters on actual events or people from your own life?

Yes. In Sorrow’s Point, when Tabby’s car has a man defecate in front of her car, that actually happened to my parents and some family friends who were with them on a vacation.

What would your readers be surprised to learn about you?

That I hate to get my picture taken. I very begrudgingly did my author’s photo. If it had been up to me, I probably would have used a picture of me as a kid in a Batman T-shirt. LOL.

Which book or series do you wish you had written?

I really wish I had written The Strain series by Guillermo de Toro and Chuck Hogan. Simply amazing series of books.

Is there a genre(s) that you’d like to write that you haven’t tackled yet?

Historical Fiction. I have an idea about some things that occurred in the coal fields of WV pre-1920.

What is in your to read pile?

I have a lot of Science Fiction in my to-read pile. My next project is going to be an odd sci-fi novel- which I’ve never written before, so this should be interesting. I will probably start out with Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep by Philip K. Dick. It is the book that inspired the movie Bladerunner.
