Honey and Her Bear by Lynn Richards

Tell us a little about your latest or upcoming release.

Honey and Her Bear is a story of a curvy, sassy woman who knows what she wants—a big, old bearshifer. Derek is a lone bear, unwilling to let go of his past to embrace his future.

Have you ever based your book or characters on actual events or people from your own life?

I tell my husband he makes the perfect EX-HUSBAND character! Needless to say, I always get some special attention after that.

Is there a theme or message in your work that you would like readers to connect to?

The message is—everyone has someone out there for them. Everyone is worthy of love.

What would your readers be surprised to learn about you?

That we are two people?

Maybe not, we share that a lot. Maybe that we’re from a very small town in the southeastern United States where the roll up the sidewalks every night.

When you’re not writing what do you do? Do you have any hobbies or guilty pleasures?

Reading!! It’s difficult to be a reader and a writer. You want to drown yourself in a good book, but then say, da**it, I need to be writing that good book.

Is there a genre(s) that you’d like to write that you haven’t tackled yet?

We have an idea for a thriller, but we would have to go into a dark, dark, place to write it.

What is next for you? Do you have any scheduled upcoming releases or works in progress?

We always have lots and lots of stories – in progress. It’s getting them to the finish line that is the difficult part. A Mate of His Heart should be our next release unless one of us gets a wild hair up the a**. Love it when that happens, but hate it also.

Book Description:

There was nothing ordinary about Honey Potts. From the tips of her Very Berry Pink toenails to the top of her curly auburn head, and every freckled mouthwatering inch of abundant skin in between, she was a force of nature that made Derek’s head spin.

For an experienced bear shifter like him, that could spell big trouble.

Teaser Excerpt:

“I’m burning up,” she said matter-of-factly, the grin tilting her luscious lips full of wicked mischief. “I thought I’d join you for a swim.” Keeping her eyes on his face, she toed off her tennis shoes and put her hands on the bottom of her sunny top and began to inch it upward.

“Like hell you are.” He made a cutting motion with his hand. “Dammit woman, keep that shirt on or I’ll…”

Excerpt, Karson’s POV:
Ava’s eyes met mine, and the understanding there almost broke me.
“I can’t imagine what you’ve gone through, Karson. And I won’t pretend I can even begin to wrap my mind around how that would feel. I would never ask you to give up your hunt for me,” Ava said.
Emotions rolled over me—so fast and hard I couldn’t quite grasp them. My old familiar pain, and new pain for her. They built under my skin, threatening to burst free if I didn’t find an outlet.
I pushed the bathroom door open the rest of the way. Ava let out a soft squeak, but I pulled her into my arms and kissed her. Brutally, I punished her with my mouth. I needed an outlet for my emotion. No. Not just an outlet. I needed her.
Only a moment of hesitation, and she was kissing me back. One hand clutched my shoulder while the other held on to her towel. Wrapping my arms around her, I pulled her closer, anger completely drowned by the passion she elicited in me.
“This is such a bad idea,” I murmured against her lips.
“Shut the hell up and quit thinking for once.”
Still wet from the shower, she clung to me as I kissed her neck. I nibbled my way to her shoulders and then in one sweeping motion, picked her up—towel and all. Then I carried her out of the bathroom and set her on her feet next to the bed.
I tugged lightly on the towel she still clutched, but didn’t try to take it from her. This was her decision, and even if it killed me, I would stop if she wanted me to.
“We don’t have—”

“Didn’t I tell you to be quiet?” Her words were teasing, but her voice was full with emotion. With a jerk of quick movement, her posture stiffened, and then she tossed the towel to the floor.

Interview and Giveaway with Danica Winters

What inspired you to become an author?

When I was a teen I loved to write, but was put down by an English teacher whose comments made me shift my attention away from writing. After a bout of cancer at eighteen, I reevaluated my life and what I truly loved. After a great deal of soul-searching, I decided I was going to do what made me happy and finally, when I was about twenty-four, I made the journey into writing professionally. It has been a rocky road at times, especially when I was just starting, but now, a few years later, I’m so glad that I went through the struggles and hardships I was forced to face. They made me the writer I am today. J

Do you have a specific writing style?

Many of my fans say that I write like Janet Evanovich (thank you BTW—what a compliment). I write fast plots, quirky characters, and intricate story lines. I thrive on writing books that are completely unique, but something that readers love.

Do you write in different genres?

I write shorter novellas and short stories in romantic suspense. In the future, we may see a novel length romantic suspense.

Do you title the book first or wait until after it’s complete?

Often the title I come up with is changed by the publisher. Over the years, I have come to accept this as part of the process. In the case of Savannah Sacrifice, it started out as Operation Sacrifice, but when I was done writing I felt it needed to be changed.

Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?

In every single one of my stories I always come back to one theme, a theme that has dramatically affected my life, and that is the belief in hope. Without hope nothing will ever change. Hope unites us all and keeps us moving forward.

If you had to choose, which writer would you consider a mentor? Casey Dawes, B.J. Daniels, and Kat Martin have been major influences in my life. I’m lucky to live in Montana and have them as chapter mates.

What book are you reading now?

I’m reading Brenda Novak’s White Heat.

What books are in your to read pile?

Do you have an hour?

What is your current “work in progress” or upcoming projects?

There are many projects in the works. There will be more books/book in the Nymph Series and I’m also working on a new series called The Irish Traveller Series. I’m pretty excited about my upcoming books!

Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?

I’m a full-time mom of small children, and a full-time writer. I also own a new company. So my hours are packed with meetings, peanut butter and jelly, and ink stains. I’m busy, but I have to admit that I love the energy that surrounds me.

Who is your favorite author and what is it that really strikes you about their work?

I have a love/hate relationship with Jodi Picoult. If you’ve read her books you will understand exactly what I mean. I love her writing and her work, but I always end up throwing the book.

Do you have to travel much to do research for your books?

I don’t do a lot of travel for my books, but I do a TON of research. I’m working on a new book about Fire Fighters (it’s tough work to stare at them all day)! J
I would say that half of my hours in a book are spent in research and story development.

Do you have any advice for other writers?

Have a thick skin and try to understand the difference between a critic and a critique. If/when you get negative feedback, turn it to your advantage. It’s a hard skill to have, accepting criticism with a smile, but the sooner you are able to do this, the better off you will be.

More importantly, remember to have fun.

In the battles between the head and the heart and enemies and friends, tough decisions must be faced—and sacrifices made.

About The Author:

Danica Winters is a bestselling author of over ten books.  She has won multiple awards and is known for writing books that grip readers with their ability to drive emotion through suspense and occasionally a touch of magic. Most recently, Danica was the winner of the 2013 Paranormal Romance Guild’s Book of the Year Award and currently a finalist in the Chanticleer Reviews and Media Paranormal Book of the Year competition for her paranormal romantic suspense novel, Montana Mustangs.

When she’s not working, she can be found in the wilds of Montana testing her patience while she tries to understand the allure of various crafts (quilting, pottery, and painting are not her thing).  She always believes the cup is neither half full nor half empty, but it better be filled with wine.

Interview and Giveaway with Anyta Sunday

Please share a little about yourself, your genres, any other pen names you use.

The about me part, yikes. Why is it I find this is always the hardest part? Okay, well here goes . . . I am a writer of many genres ranging from first readers (not yet released, and will have a different pseudonym) to adult contemporary romance.

The Guardian of the Angels trilogy is a YA paranormal romance series, and as well as writing straight love stories, I also write novels featuring gay romances (ranging from New Adult to Adult contemporary).

Under the pseudonym Dru Wellington I also write gay erotic fairy tales/fantasy.

So yeah, quite a range there. But I enjoy dabbling in many different genres—it keeps writing fresh!

Are you a mom ?

Yes, I’m a mama. I have a wonderful five-year-old son, who makes me giggle on a daily basis!

If yes do you find it hard to juggle writing and parenting?

Yep. Especially in the beginning, when it was mostly him and I at home. And yet, since having a kid, I’ve never been so organized. I know I don’t have much time in the day, so I really have to buckle down and just do it.

What would your readers be surprised to learn about you?

I don’t like ice cream. I mean, it’s okay if I have to eat it, but yeah . . . it’s just too cold!  I also hate baths. Wrinkly fingers and feet, yuck! I’m a shower girl all the way.

When you’re not writing what do you do? Do you have any hobbies or guilty pleasures?

Guilty pleasures. Okay, does watching TV series count? Because sometimes I get so carried away with a series I watch six episodes in a row! I love most things Joss Whedon. I also just recently watched all of Chuck, and Psych—both extremely funny shows. Loved them.

Other than watching, and reading (of course!) I love going to cafes and drinking good coffee. I’m very critical of cappuccinos and lattes and flat whites; it has to have just the right amount of froth and creamy texture for me to like it!

Which romance book or series (or other genre, if you don’t write romance) do you wish you had written?

Ohhh, nice question. Gosh, there are just so many. Whenever I get lost in a book, I wish I’d written it, because it’s just so darn awesome!

Kristin Cashore’s Graceling series comes to mind—how awesome to have written these wonderful stories!

Is there a genre(s) that you’d like to write that you haven’t tackled yet?

Gay historical romance, but I plan to try writing one after I have finished writing Phoenixed, the last in the Guardians trilogy.

Thank you, Creatively Green Write at Home Mom for the interview!
